Super Mario RPG

I recently won this Mario RPG game, and I looked at the bottom of the cart and found this

Is this a normal thing for this game?

  • Not sure what you are referring to, but I don't see anything not normal.
  • Looks the same as mine.
  • Most SNES games have just one connector, I've never seen one with 3, that's what I'm asking about.
  • Yeah, that's for the expansion processor in it, games with extra hardware like Mega Man X2+ have those tabs for their coprocessors power and such. And I also think for some reason this game also had a revision where it didn't have an expansion processor? Could anyone refresh my memory on that?

But games that have 3 connectors are stuff like Pilot Wings,, F1 Race Of Champions 2, Starfox, Yoshi's Island, Kirby Super Star, Kirby Dreamland 3, and more.
  • Mine definitely has the 3 connectors as well.
  • This was originally what you saw on the Super FX chip games like StarFox & Stunt Race FX, but Mario RPG used an updated version called the Super FX2 chip.
  • Essentially all Super NES carts which used a significant co-processor will have these. Even the Super Game Boy has them.

I expected you to ask about the single metal pin embedded to one side of the slot. I had the answer ready since I asked it myself earlier this year.
  • I don't think my SMRPG has 3 connectors. I have the first release of it. I'll check when I get home.
