xbox mod?

i got a guy locally who claims he can mod an original xbox with a bunch of emulators and around 14,000 roms....he only wants 50 bucks per system to do this...is this a good deal?

now i got 3 xboxs id like to do this to and he wont haggle on the price even with multiple systems....is this a hard mod to do?...anyone got advice on a good how-to video if you've never done a xbox mod before?...

so what would be the best bet paying this guy $150 or just learn how to do the mod myself...ive already had some success at modding a psp so its not like im not willing to learn

  • ya lmao dont do that. The first xbox is REALLY ez to mod, theres tutorials everywhere.
  • Was he talking about "softmodding" or installing a modchip?

It's not hard at all to softmod a system. It takes about 10 minutes and a copy of Mechassault or Agent Under Fire.

It gets a little tricky if you want to upgrade to hdd to a larger one, but not to hard if you follow directions.

I recommend using XBMC as your new dash.

    Good luck
  • I softmodded my Xbox with Splinter Cell. It's basically find the program, download to PC, upload to Xbox. Takes however long it takes to download the program, and then the emulators. I think I have Unleash X on mine.
  • Youtube it...do it yourself. It's seems simple, as I plan on soft modding mine as well.
  • is Splinter cell Pandora tomorrow the game you can mod it with?...
  • This is what I used.  Don't know if Pandora will work.

  • I used Mech Assualt to first softmod my xbox years ago. I then bought a solderless modchip to use instead. Installing the modchip for my xbox version was easy. Most of the time and effort went into researching how to install, bios, new programs etc. I did not want to kill my console.
  • There are a bunch of games you can use to mod it, it's a save exploit. I think you need an Action Replay too, or I'm looking at an OLD guide. If you are successful let me know. I've been wanting to mod mine for a while.

I might be thinking of something else but don't you have to set it up on a local network and specify pathing for files?

Yes you are exactly right.  It would be easiest to have a TV handy when getting the IP address off the XBOX.
  • So in reality the xbox just acts as a proxy? Does that cause any security vulnerability if you have wifi or is it a completely separate configuration for hardwired connection sharing privileges?

I'm not going to win the popularity vote here but why not just get one of the Xbox 360 PC wireless controllers and a mame / entertainment center front end? GameEx is pretty good the few times I've seen it.
  • Just for the initial mod, then once the programs and emulators are downloaded to the Xbox you can have any game you want to play.

I have every NES, SNES, Genesis, and 64 all on my Xbox now.

I didn't know the xbox had 8~10 GB of HDD space on it. I thought it was much less than that. Originally I thought it was all just a proxy loader from a network source and not a stand alone thing. The only person I've seen with the mod had his hooked up to the network constantly. I guess because of size restrictions?
  • I got mine modded from a dude and he put quite a bit of stuff on it. My favorite is playing Gameboy advance games with FULL SCREEN AND NO BOARDERS! xD

Sadly, he stopped doing it since he had a run in with the law (Selling mods isn't illegal, but the mods WITH games is illegal).
  • I used to mod them for ppl back in like 2004, but the a certain file you need from MIRC is gone from what I heard.

Oh yeah, plus you can upgrade as well.  I'll load up a screen shot later of my setup.

Derp. It is made by microsoft, should of expected that.

  • Yeah, the XBOX has a nice 8GB hard drive. Although when you mod it, it's partitioned up so you have a variety of smaller-sized segments where you can copy your games to. At least that's how mine did it (Evolution-X, I hear it's old and outdated though). It's a perfect amount to have a full collection of pretty much every retro system. If you want to get into PlayStation games running on it though, or copying your own XBOX titles to it, you will need to put a larger HD in it as you will run out of space pretty fast. I thought about doing that myself, but I'm not sure what it entails asides from putting the new HD in. That and I don't feel like networking the XBOX with my computer again--transferring the files to it was a PITA and would fail frequently for me.
