Anyone own any custom/repro. carts?

Just curious on this matter too.  I only own one such cart, and it is a rom hack I did of Adventures of Lolo called "Challenging Lolo".  I thought it would be neat to see it in a real cart and play it on a real NES, which it was.

The only thing I was disappointed with was the label being not as good-looking color-wise as I drew it.  I've been thinking of getting it reprinted, but don't know where.

What about you folks?

  • Hmm... I think necrasaro420 might know more about this, but where can I get one of these? I'm a lolo fan and would love to try out your hack.

  • If you just want the IPS rom patches, go to romhacking.net.  I actually made a Challenging Lolo 2, too, although I don't have that one in cart form (yet).

If you want a real cart, go to nesreproductions.com.  You need to supply him a compatible cart.  I sent him a cheapy Abadox one with a damaged label but no other damage.  And if that's the case, I'm actually kinda honored.  image
  • Gamereproductions.com will supply the donor cart for the same price image

I don't own any repros at this time, but I do have dangevin's Dragon Wars repro cart. Wouldn't mind getting my own copy though, since his was a contest prize.
  • Yeah Dain, he sent me those ROMs via messanger. They're pretty fun. Very challenging as well.
  • I have a total of six reproduction cartrides. They're really cool, and neat to play some games on actual NES hardware. I don't see a point in collecting them though, only get the ones you want for playing purposes.

I've ordered from both necrasaro420 (gamereproductions) and leonki (nesreproductions) before and they were both great. Both the service and communication was great for both of them. I believe parpunk is going to be selling reproductions soon also. I know he recently learned how to make them.
  • i have 3 of em california rasins, final fantasy 2 and earthbound...

i think there kindda cool, and if u can get them from that website not sure the name of it. there not that high priced like $30..

i got ripped for mine i got them from ebay for a bit more around $50 i think, but now i know of the website people here are mentioning and i do plan to buy more of them.....

Don't feel bad, people used to get ripped off a whole lot more than that...repros of Earthbound used to sell for well over 100$ on ebay and the sad thing is, the people who sold them weren't even the ones that made them.  They'd buy them for 30ish$ from leonki and then resell them on ebay, making it seem like they were prototypes by the description.
  • yea ill be making them soon enough. im still working on the best possible source for labels at the moment. I have all the labels, i just have to find the best place to get them made. :-)
  • Thought I'd revisit this thread.  I actually kinda want a few more games in cart form.  My Lolo 2 hack, which would be a personal choice.  Another fun little game I came across is called "Gimmick!", only released on Famicom.  The game uses some expansion for its sound, but there exists a PAL version, so I'm wondering if that'd work.  I just wonder if it'd be possible to make the game.  I kind of want to talk to someone directly about these matters.
  • I don't know this for a fact (I don't have the PAL cart), but I'm pretty sure the PAL version doesn't have the required hardware for the expansion sound.

Well, that's what I'm saying.  The fact the PAL version DOESN'T use that sound might make it possible for the NES here in North America.
  • Oh in that case yes you can use a Batman: Return of the Joker cart as a donor cart if your not concerned with having the extra sound.
  • Well, the game without the sound actually would be quite crummy now that I can hear it.  It just ain't the same.  Oh well.

I should stick to my rom hacks.  I had this crazy idea of spray painting the carts a color other than grey.
