NES Hall of Shame

Just got these babies in the last lot...

First up... Batman: Return of the Joker... OR IS IT? Someone obvious had a fear of the Joker and used permanent marker to black out his face on the box. Also included was matching cart! Cart is MINT otherwise!

Up next is Super Mario Bros... OR IS IT? Someone must have needed a Super Mario Bros. box badly.... They printed off a new front, back, and sides for Mario... and pasted it on a perfect Snoopy's Silly Sports box... damn... I need a Snoopy box!

  • i got a quadrun cart that was completly covered in pink finger nail polish
  • So....you used nail polish remover?

  • Giving a shout out to all cartridges that arrive and look as if they have been used as a shovel for a digging project in the back yard.  Why didn't people just use an actual shovel?  I know I have received at least 25 of these little buggers if not more.
  • I tried it but i wanted to try and save the label so i scratched most of it off
  • Praise be to you Dain for fixing the search engine! I am one happy fellow because of that...

I just bought a random box of items for 10$ at a barn sale today and it housed some of the smelliest items I have ever gotten...a very pungent smell of musk, mold and dirt. Anyhow, I had everything outside to air out a bit and was cleaning it all out when I came upon this Tiger-Heli cart. My only guess is that the employee at the rental place this came from must have been yelled at for not catching an unwound movie that someone returned. He must have raised his fists in the air and said '...Never again!'
  • Cool, glad you're using it!

    That's one damn ugly TH!
  • Wow...those are kind of...sad, actually. I can't top them.
  • Are you going to rewind your Tiger Heli?
  • Heya, Limbo, if you ever wanna sell that Jaguar image ...

Eh, what can I say? I've come across some rotten eggs, per se, while out and about looking for games... A friend of mine's nephew gave me a stack of old Saturn and Dreamcast games that look like they were played with a comb full of phonograph needles lined up in different directions. 'Tis a shame, too...though one of the better-condition games of the bunch (Namco Museum, DC) ended up in my collection, as it wasn't/isn't too scratched to play image .
  • I think my little brother got these for free from a friend a long time ago....not exactly sure what happened to them. Unfortunately the NJ1 still sits on my shelf because its my only copy, but I do have a minty NG2, so the bad one is in hiding.

  • Thats a sweet one of a kind proto you got there NGD,Will you take $125 shipped for it....LOL
  • Oh, yeah, failed to mention... I once received a Popeye pirate (similar to the pirates Erik posted in another forum thread) for the NES... The front label was reduced to just the white residue (though strangely, the top label was still there and actually looked halfway decent). Another NES tidbit, and this one I wouldn't normally have sold, as I consider it atypical of my preferred quality of for-sale items, but as it was a rarity, and a duplicate, I sold it... It's in the Buy, Sell, & Trade forum, the Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak with the torn label that I sold some time ago. I can't complain...I gave about 10% of what I sold it for (after one figured it all up).

  • I bought Donkey Kong at a flea market for a $1.00 great label, but a different game in the cart, "duck hunt"
  • Got this the other day image :

  • I thought this topic was a lot of fun so I dug it up from the dead to see if anyone has anything new to contribute.  This has to be one of my saddest items...I think the caption for this should be 'Oh man, I have this really hot soldering iron that I need to put down...where should  I put it?!'

that is priceless... i can just see a kid ripping the shit out of it on christmas, only to realize how much it sucked.  decided to sell it at a garage sale the following spring only to realize how poorly it was treated.  the kid then went on ahead to write in the BEETHOV and part of the E with a red sharpie.

but if i were to choose one its gotta be that snoopy box.

  • Batty's TMNT TF comes to mind... oh and by the way BATTY it's still in my car after what 17 years now is it? You getting anywhere with the seller?
  • damn, that one with the soddering iron wound looks like a test cart.

You know...I've no idea.  I opened it and cleaned it out, but haven't tested it yet.

Xevious, I have a castlevania 3 cart that looks like that but not nearly as bad...thanks for sharing the pics!  It's entertaining to see that items can be beat to hell other than just having their labels damaged.

  • ^^^damn! Is that sun damage?
  • i think. the label is horrible too lol. i found that game so eh it was free image
