M.U.S.H.A

I bought this a little while back and I've been enjoying the hell out of it now that I finally set some time away to actually play it. The game plays ultra fast and while the graphics initially seem a little bland, the amount of detail, especially in the later levels is nothing short of incredible. I freaking love the stage 2 music, it's still stuck in my head and the controls are spot on. The more I play, I reconsider it a good challenge but not super difficult, in fact, the further I get into it, the game actually seems to get easier. Go figure.

Any of you guys played this? I've been tooling around with the power ups to see what works best. So far I'm leaning towards the forcefield blue power up since it stays on all the time, while the weapon power ups require you to press the B button.

  • Love it. It got me into the genre actually. I consider myself average at best at games and was able to nearly beat it after a few days of play. So to me the difficulty is perfect. the music is great. Graphics are nice. its in my top 10 Genesis games now. I actually don't own it yet, been playing on my everdrive.
  • I haven't played it more than 30 minutes, but from what I've played it's a great game. I'll find some time for a more lengthy playthrough this weekend.
  • It's weird, I thought the game was really hard for the first two levels playing it on normal. Once I really sunk my teeth into it, I had it beat in a few nights.
  • I love shmups, so I really, really want to add this game to my collection... but I'm kinda holding out for the pipe-dream that I'll find it at a garage sale for $10...

    That's my dream, anyway.
  • It's a very good game while it lasts. The game is very short though. I can see someone being let down due to the overall length of the game but there are different endings based on what setting you beat the game on. I will say that it's a helluva lot of fun while it lasts.

To anyone looking to get this, I would recommend getting Robo Aleste on the sega cd as well, the gameplay is virtually identical and Aleste is alot cheaper.

I keep hearing that there's a direct relation to MUSHA and Space Megaforce on the snes. Honestly, after looking at the gameplay of that game, I don't see a connection at all. It's also related to the Power Strike games on the SMS and there's even an Aleste game on the MSX and gamegear.

I've been learning quite a bit about the series on the whole.I'm always baffled at why the names get changed aroung with games like this and the Darius and Thunder Force games. It makes no sense to me, seems if anything you stand the chance of fans missing the games all together.
  • Damn I want this game, I hate all you people that own it!

The music of stage 2 is stuck in my head. This is the only stand alone track I could find for it and it's badass. You just get so pumped when this kicks up.

  • The music in the first stage is pretty awesome also.

Full-Metal Fighter is actually my phone's ringtone.

EDIT: And be sure to pick up Robo Aleste for the Sega CD. It's a sequel to MUSHA and it's also REALLY good.
  • Robo Aleste is a totally badass game. I personally think it surpasses MUSHA in every way. I love both games though, MUSHA in particular does some things with the genesis hardware that's just incredible and it runs at a sliky smooth framerate. Robo Alesta on the other hand, it seems average in terms of graphics until the game pulls out all the stops and goes for broke at the end with all sorts of graphical flourishes and the music is fantastic.
  • I want to to get this on Cart

I only played this though emulation though the PS2(PGEN) DS (jEnesis) PC (Fusion)
