I was playing this today and GD! This game cooks! Man level 7 is just insane. There is so much going on. Things coming everywhere. While not as classic as say Gradius (a game I love, especialy IV on Snes) it makes up for and exceeds over with it's crazy speed and how many things can move fast on the screen.

Now I realy came to talk strategy. I usually use the 3 gun. Think heat seeking laser boomarangs. Awesome! Cuase I'm lazy and want my shots to chase people down so I can focus on dodging. A classic strategy. As for the bombs.... I realy don't have a strategy. I pick them all up. I usually end up with the F, think it stands for Fire.? But I like the crazy bouncy all over the screen one.

Thing I don't like. The number/letter system for the power ups seems kind genaric.

Another thing I thought was awazing is the last bosses bullet paterns. I have never seen these patterns before. I have played my share of shooters. Usualy the bullet paterns are.... oh I see. This one, I was like what the heel are these bullets doing?. And theres 2 different bullet paterns and both are like huh?

What weapon and bombs do you use?

    I also use the "3" weapon. As for bombs I dislike the F because it's such a small area. I personally use the B and T bombs. One of them bounces all over screen like you mentioned and the other goes from one side of the screen to the other destroying anything in its path.



    This is truly IMO the best shooter on the NES and one a lot of people forget about or overlook.

    at 42 min. it is off the hook! For real. This has to be maxing the Nes out. Very amazing game for sure.

    The flames are likely backgrounds, which don't take up the 8 sprites per scanline limitation, in addition to the 64 sprites max on screen limitation. But yeah. that was a crazy game! Compile knew their stuff.

    This is one of the best games I've recently discovered for the NES. I typically don't worry about which bomb I have until I have 20 stocked up.



    I always try to keep the 3 weapon maxed out. It seems to work the best.

    Closest thing to an NTSC Recca, it seems. The art for the game is deceitful; it doesn't impress... which is a shame, which is why I've passed it up in the past. Looks like I shall be getting it now.

    If you like this one and you're a big shooter fan, look out the homebrew Bladebuster. It's a Recca style game with 2 modes, 2 minutes and 5 minutes, it's simply amazing.



    It's worth playing just to see what the NES is actually capable of putting out.

    Gun-Nac was a game i was fortunate enough to have as a kid and it is one of my all-time faves. I usually use the 3 weapon and the Water bombs. Who needs absolute precision when you have a homing weapon and bombs with almost total screen coverage. The game still manages to handily kick my ass though.

    Sold mine to BalloonFight when I was scaling back and at times I wish I hadn't as it's unique fun. Loved the unique options screen choice of sprite or speed priority as it really taxes the NES.

    Just want to say this is one of my favorite NES games of all time, it just never gets old.

    I like gun 4 and the bombs that go side to side across the whole screen.



    I still prefer the boss design in The Guardian legend.. but that's probably because I haven't finished Gun Nac yet.. I guess I better play it some more.

    Great game! Beat it a few years ago, don't remember all of the weapon numbers, but it was definitely a solid game. One of, if not the best, NTSC vertical shmups released.

     Also, like Paul said, check out Blade Buster! Zanac is pretty good as well, though not as flashy as Gun Nac. I've got a knack for stuff like Gun Nac and Zanac

    And I beat it! It is awesome, but it ait easy. Great game. I ordered a repro of Recca. For now I'ma move on to Zanac. Great game.

    This game is amazing. The music in Area 6 is really nice. I like using the "4" weapon, and either the "W" or "T" bombs. Right now, I'm trying to finish Advanced/No Ricochet, but I'm having a tough time. The default difficulty is pretty easy, but kick it up one notch and it gets much tougher. Yah for tough NES games!
