i was going to get some game cases to store my loose carts and make them look nice
  • I've been on the Cover Project for a while.

It's a great site for those that have "Cart-Only" (no CIB's) and wish to display them in a case/box. Basically covers that are designed from the original scanned box art, and sized to fit in a Universal Game Case (UGC)... Essentially like those clam-shell rental cases from back in the day.

I've inquired here in the past (with minimal success) about the possibility of some NA users (who have near complete CIB collections) if they could scan (at 600dpi) some of their boxes for the site, as the Cover project doesn't have covers for all games - last I checked, the had about 550 of the NES library's covers.

There are still covers (scans) I'm looking for - some are rare - Bonk's Adventure, Mighty Final Fight, RC Pro Am 2, Wacky Races, The Jetson's, etc. If anybody is willing to scan their box, please PM me. Thanks in advance.

I did that with my GBA games in DS cases... they work awesome for that purpose.

i would think that after all these years that they would have every game cover scanned but i was supprised as i dont have any rare games that there were a few i couldnt get. i also respect the time and effort it takes to photoshop the covers together.

It's a hard task.  Like you said, it's time and effort for each one of those covers.  Plus, they don't just have NES covers, they've got ones for all kinds of systems.

There are probably many resons for not having every box/cover scanned.

Firstly, the Cover Project site doesn't have nearly the userbase that say a site like NA does.

Secondly, a lot of the hard core collectors out there, and/or on NA (the ones with CIB collections) either don't approve of the scanning of covers (fear of piracy?), or don't want to go to the efforts to scan their boxes in the first place, in fear that it might damage them.  I can respect and understand both those reasonings.

Thirdly, they're rare games, so it's understandable that some covers wouldn't be scanned, or on the site, as they're hard to find... Let alone a user on the Cover Project who owns it and has access to a scanner.

..In saying all of that, they've still have covers on there for a lot of rare NES games - like Flintstones 2, Bubble Bobble 2, Little Samson, etc.

Hopefully some CIB collectors out there see this thread and would contimplate/consider scanning some of the remain boxes left, that still needed  covers.  (thanks in advance to anybody reading this who can!!)

Slowly but surely the covers will be scanned (we can hope!).
  • ^ Agreed:

i am wondering how many collectors on NA use the universal cases and if they have come across the same problem with some of these fairly common games that i have. my casing project is still in the works and just getting off the ground so i will have time to see if this will make any progress. anyone who reads this and wants to help reach out and lets see if we can make this happen.

Also glad to know my copies of ring king and rbi baseball have fallen into the rare cattagory

    ( just kidding)
  • Tom, funny you mention Ring King & RBI Baseball. I was at a buddy's place yesterday and finally got around to scanning some of the boxes he had. Both those games were among the boxes he had, that aren't on the site. I scanned Ring King (http://www.mediafire.com/?76f9kvxn6kxwa), so hopefully one of the "Cover Guru's" there can make a cover out of it sometime in the future. I haven't got the RBI baseball one up, but I believe he had the black cart version.

Anyways, figured I'd let you know..

Anybody else out there in "NA Land" feel like scanning some of their CIB's that aren't currently on the site - http://www.thecoverproject.net/ ? (Please PM me if so)
