NES top loader issues

i put a game genie in my top loader the other day and it was really tough to get in and out and since then most of my carts have been really loose and wont load i have to shove a piece of paper behind the cart just to get it to play. are my connects loose or would it be something else?

  • sounds like you bent the pins out of shape. the game genie pcb is thicker than the average game.
  • could i re tighten them?
  • possibly. bending the pins back is a regular suggestion for fixing a toaster connector, although I've never had much luck doing that. I actually broke a pin last time I tried. But if you can find a way to hook something behind the pin and pull it back to the center it might improve your situation.
  • I guy recently posted on here that boiling the pin connector made his work like new. I haven't done it myself yet but I am definitely gonna try it soon.

OP report back if you fix your console by bending back the pins, I'd like to give this a try someday

  • You probably should've had an alarm bell ring in your head when you tried to put the game genie in. But since the damage is already done, there's not much left to do than to try and bend the pins back in place. This is going to be a tough job since the connector is a lot smaller than the normal NES connector. If not, you either have to desolder it and change it with a working one, or just stick a piece of paper inside each time.

The Game Genie had its own adapter for the NES2 "top loader", like so:

  • im going to attempt to bend back the connector pins tonight and hopefully that will solve the problem. i've always had a normal nes and didnt realize that the game geneie would damage my top loader i just figured it was tough to fit in there.
  • ill post on here if i get going again
