NES repair

Hi, I bought a NES a week ago. The system doesn't really work. When I powered it on it, the light on the system would be flashing red. Using a tutorial online, I took the NES apart and bent the pins on the 72 pin connector into place. I also disabled the lockout chip. Now when I power the system on, I get a solid power light and the tv screen is just solid white. I've ordered a new 72 pin connector and it's currently on it's way here.

My question is, will a new 72 pin connector fix the console, or does it sound like there's something different wrong with it?

  • That is the typical symptom when all pins aren't making connection after disabling the lock out chip. A new connector should fix it, just make sure all your carts connectors stay clean.
  • Bending the pins doesnt always works.

They still may be dirty or corroded.

Disabling the lock out chip stops the unit from reseting itself, hence why the solid light.

The new connector should fix the problem.
  • Clean your games and it'll probably work fine.
  • Thank you guys for the quick responses. I had a feeling it was that stupid pin. It'll be nice to soon have a NES that works 100% of the time.
  • You could always boil the connector to give it a good cleaning.
