Question regarding Mr. Gimmick PAL

Hey everybody, been lurking on here for quite a while and decided to sign up.

Anyway, let's get down to business. Gimmick business to be precise.

I am currently looking for the PAL version of the game, however it is too expensive for me. So I decided to go with a reproduction cart. However, I can only find NTSC repro's of the game and not PAL versions.

Are these out there? It seems like a dumb question but I can't figure out why I can't find any of them. Even though the ROM is accessible if I'm not mistaken.

So, is there anyone out there that sells PAL reproductions of this game?

Thank you for your time!

PS: What's up with the logo on the side? It's so annoying that it changes from normal to 50% opacity constantly...

  • You should contact coinheaven (Joe), he runs www.thenesdump.com and can make PAL reproductions if you specify it I believe. PM him and ask.

just curious, why are you looking for the pal version?
  • Thanks samaron, I contacted him through his website and now I'm waiting for a reply.

Also, Lincoln, I want a PAL version because I own a PAL NES lol.
  • there is one for sale on retrousb.com:

    http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=105

That will be your best bet. It works on all systems including PAL. His work is usually spot on and professional.

Actually it doesn't work, it's the one game that doesn't seem to be multi region.

Note from the bottom of the Mr. Gimmick page on Retrousb.com

"Graphical glitches occur on Pal systems, unlikely to be playable."

  • wow, bummer. Sorry for the help then, you're on your own hahaha.

Joe may be able to do one with a fami adapter and a japanese gimmick cart. He can reprogram the chip and use the fami adapter to pop into a PAL cart shell.
  • It took a while for this to occur to me but what you are asking is equivalent to asking for someone to make you an F2 or Stadium Events repro. Mr. Gimmick was a retail release in pal territories and can be had legitimately. I personally would not make one of these and I think you will have a hard time finding a reputable repro maker around here that will.

I don't see why the NTSC version is no problem and the PAL version is not okay to reproduce. It might be able to find legitimately, but so are NWC and other rare games, who can be found as a reproduction. Not only that, but Mr. Gimmick is just as hard to find for me as it is for you.

And to top it off, some people just want to enjoy a game without spending a fortune on a cartridge.

But hey, if that's your point of view, it's fine by me. I'm over here buying a reproduction from thenesdump.com

Apparently I have no idea what I'm talking about. By all means, continue asking around for people to counterfeit retail games for you.

  • Okay then, go find an NWC. Tell us when you get it.

And NTSC is okay because it was never released. F2 was released and while hard to find, not impossible for anybody though. Repros of that are very much frowned upon, as they should be. NWC might have a few found, but that's on the line where it's okay to make them because that's too hard to find. Any retail released game is just not okay though.
  • Opinions and facts.
  • You are making a fantastic first impression.

I don't understand why you make such a big deal out of this. All I'm doing over here is ask a simple question, and people help out.

    That's it.

I understand that it's not a real game, I understand that it's frowned upon. But what I don't understand is that you go around here and picking on me and stating the obvious. Not only you, but also 3GenGames, of course.

All I'm doing is ask for help because I wish to play this game on my NES rather then emulate the rom, and I do not have the funding to buy the original game. If I did have the money of course i would buy the real deal.

I really could care less about a first impression to you or 3GenGames because frankly I really don't see the point. If you dislike reproduction games, that's your problem, not mine.

Take it easy and stop "attacking" me, buddy. We all have the same hobby here, there's no need to get so worked up about such a little thing.

I made my original point without any judgement on you and you basically called me an idiot for doing so. I didnt make my point to pick on you, I did it to give you a heads up that your request wouldn't be well received around here.

You have no entitlement to play the game on your original pal hardware. If you want to do so, you can plunk down the cash to buy it, or maybe buy a powerpak from retrousb if it happens to support that rom, or you can buy the equipment and track down donors to make your own repro.

Again, you are asking for someone to make a copy of a retail released game, and that is frowned up. I'm not saying this to argue with you, I'm saying it to clue you in to the general consensus of the community here. If you want repros of other things that don't qualify as a direct counterfeit- smb lost levels, earthbound zero, etc- there are lots of people around here happy to help (me included).

And the whole attitude of "your retarded" towards someone giving you an honest response doesn't go over well here.

I never called you an idiot.

I did it to give you a heads up that your request wouldn't be well received around here.

And yet I got more helpful replies than bad ones.

This is your opinion, and once again, I do not dissagree with it. However, YOU can also buy a system that supports the original/famicom cart to play it. Yet you can have the reproduction because it was never released over there? That's rather unfair in my opinion. So you say that it's cool to buy a repro if I happen to own a NTSC NES? I don't really understand the difference, but hey, whatever. It's your opinion and I'm cool with it.

Thank you I'll keep that in mind.

"you're retarded" is a little over the top don't you think? I never wished to give you that impression towards me.

Once again, I don't think it's that big of a deal to get worked up about it.

I got the info I needed, and a PAL repro is on my way, so it's time to let the thread die.
  • I don't think they should be made. And I bet a bunch of other NA'ers and some of your euro collectors brothren might not want it made. What happens in 10 years when you don't want it anymore. Or 1 year or 6 months. Nothing against you personaly. The only reason a released game has value is becuase they are hard to find and people want then. Play an emulator.

True story. Its nothing personal against you but there is a concern with people making fakes and selling them as legit.

  • I think you guys are making things up, no one seemed to care last time the JP version was being reproduced. Not sure why the PAL version would make much difference.

  • Because the PAL looks like an NES cart?

that's not a replica of an original jp gimmick, that's jp gimmick rom in an ntsc shell, which is not something that was ever legitimately available. the pal version was available and in a standard nes shell, and the real thing is a high dollar collectible now. OP is asking for a direct replica of that, which most of us think is a bad idea.

Imagine if OP had requested someone make him an american F2- would you be ok with that?

That is pretty sad that Joe is now making fakes of released retail games.  I thought his sense of community was worth more than the $10-20 he will make off that cart.
