What to do with a netbook?

I just got handed a broken netbook (needs hard drive) and was wondering how to repurpose it.

It's seems descent and it's an acer (big acer fan).

So, what should I do with it?

Obviously. But I have no real use for it. Hoping to get some ideas...
  • Hook it up to your car for some fast & furious action!

Sell it? Whenever I have something that has no use for me I either sell it or it ends up in the closet.
  • Use it for whatever you need. As long as it isn't gaming or graphically inclined, most computers are good for whatever else you'd do.
  • ^No man, he doesn't want to use it as a computer.

I'm going to suggest rowboat anchor.
  • Hook it up to your TV and stream some movies to it or watch movies you've downloaded. Hook up some USB controllers to it and it could be your all-in-one emulator/console for your TV.
  • Upgrade the battery, put in a ssd, take it with you wherever you go and load it up with roms.

Personally, I use my for development and general websurfing. It isn't really fast enough for HD stuff.
  • Definitely a mobile emulator box, if it can handle it. I've got an Aspire One, but it's too crappy for it.

My wife loves having a netbook kicking around the kitchen/living room area. She'll check her email, listen to podcasts, etc instead of hiding in her office. She really likes the convenience of having it nearby for those easy things.
  • In all seriousness, if you're good at soldering, you could turn it into a tablet:

  • I love my acer. I primarily use it for NA and other online work. That is what they are made for after all...Although, I have found it very handy here at school...everybody is toting these HUGE laptops and I carry a tiny netbook and type all my speeches/papers and such.

I say fix it and use it as a portable internet device when you are out and about...
  • Fix it and give it to somebody who needs it.
  • I used my netbook (an Acer too) for my primary computer for a very long time. Sure, I have a much more powerful desktop, but it was perfect for general web stuff and word docs. I've since gotten an iPad2 for Christmas and it's replaced my netbook, but there are times when I wish I still used it.

It is now permanently in our dev workshop housing Genesis ROMs to find proper donors for repros.
  • Although not particularly a device used for anything major as much as a regular laptop, it may even give you a stutter when playing sound/video (My cousin's netbook does), but it's good for net surfing and the like.

Heck, I would love to use one for work and personal inventory myself... I usually end up writing down all my NES games and running to the desktop to type them in, or going back and forth from the shelf to the computer desk... it gets real tiring. lol

thats a good charitable suggestion, if you dont feel like going the e bay route. pass it along to a young family member or get it to a local church or school that could pass it along to a kid who could use it for schoolwork/homework.
