My mom and dad played a lot of nintendo when i was young that is how i started playing at such a young age. Most of the games they had picked up for themselves or used. But I remember one time this may not be the last one i got but this is the last one i remember. I was really into faxanadu and a friend had it before we moved. I wanted it so badly so we went to Toys R us for my birthday, I must have been 7 or 8 years old. I had faxanadu in my hand but at the last second im not sure why but I saw ducktales and wanted to get that instead.
Luckily that game turned out to be epic, and later that year I found faxanadu at a neighbors garage sale for 2 bucks
Mine was Kirby's Adventure in the early 90s. I remember getting a Top Loader NES (which I still have) from my Grandma along with a Game Genie. When it first came out the top loader wasn't compatible with the game genie (eventually a piece was released so it would fit) so I took it back to K-Mart and got Kirby's Adventure. Amazing game right there and absolutely the right decision.
Mine was Nightshade. My mom randomly bought it for me out of the bargain bin which was really odd since my parents didn't like games and refused to buy them for me generally. That game and Kirby's Dreamland 3 when i was in the hospital for my appendectomy are the only two they ever bought for me and i still have them both.
My parents knew my very well. There was that year when those older games got reissued and they got me Final Fantasy, Metroid, and Kirby's Adventure for Christmas. That was either 93 or 94. My brother got Mega Man 6 a little bit after that as well.
Good question! This thread made me realize that I didn't get that many NES games new... the few that I did were Christmas gifts (and lame ones at that, like Millipede), or rewards for a good report card. I chose Final Fantasy as one of my rewards, and I don't know if I've ever been more excited to buy a game in my entire life. That was probably my last new one.
The last NES game I bought new was WAY into the Super NES lifespan. I was visiting my grandma, and we went to a "Service Merchandise" store (RIP) and they had a bin of Star Tropics II for like 5 bucks... I loved the first Star Tropics (still probably my favorite NES games) so it was a no brainer.
Had I known now, what I knew then - I would have bought every copy they had, but I was 12 or 13 at the time - and didn't have very deep pockets.
I really only have memories of buying 3 games (with my own money), and they were Kung Fu, Adventure Island and Star Tropics 2...
Zoda's Revenge is probably the last NES game I bought new/sealed when they were still available in stores. I believe it was $10 at Toys 'R Us when I got it.
Well as a kid I believe the last brand new NES game I got was either Wrath of the Black Manta or Super Mario Brothers 3. They both came out the same year within a few months of each other. Now a few years after I got out of high school I did work through a temp agency at Nintendo and asked my department lead if I could go to the employee garage sale, and she allowed me and one of my friends to go with her as guests. There I did pick up brand new Anticipation, Ice Hockey, Kirby Adventures, StarTropics, Zoda's Revenge, Stack-up and if I remember correctly Mega Man 6. Although I don't know what happened to the Mega Man 6 box and intrustions. I must have them somewhere.
Yes I opened all of them, because I wanted to play them. I wasn't into collecting back then.
Yes I used to have a factory sealed Stack-up big box. I opened it, played it. Sold it for $50.00 a year or two later.
There was a wood pallet around 5 feet high full of these factory sealed Stack-ups for $1.00 each and I only bought 1.
The other games were only $0.50 each and I only bought 1 each of those..... *sigh*
dont worry, im working on a time machine madmax. we can go back and pick up a few of these. were also gonna go pick up those stadium events at funcoland for 99 cents

Startropics. I think it's the only nes game I ever got brand new. Too bad I didn't like it. My grandmother constantly went out of her way to spoil me, so when we were at k-mart one day and she said I could get any game I wanted I ran to the electronics section hoping they would have Megaman 6. That was the only game I had my sight on at the moment. It wasn't there, but a worker showed me a small display of used games they were selling. I found it over there for $10. I was 12, so I was oblivious to this at the time, but when my grandmother came back and saw what I had chosen she was asked me about half a dozen times if I was sure that was what I wanted, trying to talk me out of it. I don't think I ever saw her more confused than she was a year later when I started collecting atari games. She couldn't figure out how I could be happy with video games that are older than I am.
I'm not 100% sure but I think the last game I got new was, believe it or not, Legend of Zelda. The Zelda I have is the grey cart re-release version and I remember getting it in a clearance bin at K B Toys. The Reason I got it was because I loved LttP and had never played the original NES Zelda.
