Sega Dreamcast collectors?

Lately I've been trying to "up" my Dreamcast collection, trying to get a full US library. I'm curious--Are there any other DC collectors here? Also, are there any noteworthy "collectible" items I may not know of?

So far I only *really* know of the Sonic Adventure "Limited Edition", aka, the Hollywood Video pre-release version fo the game. Not to mention, a supposed different cover release of Speed Devils.

Can anyone else relate with Dreamcst collecting? Can anyone else confirm other variations possibly not listed in the collection tool here?

Nope. That's a printing error, not a variant.

  • Welcome to the site, PapaStu! DP is where I first got started on collecting forums.

    Great info you shared there...
  • Some excellent info there guys, thanks for the tips.

I probably won't be going for every little minor variant, but we'll see. I'll be focusing on a complete library at first, including the All-Stars releases, then I'll see where I want to go from there.

The collection tool is missing a couple of things though, like the All-Stars version of WSB2k1. And it lists a ton of unreleased titles that should probably be taken out.

Even with the 'minor' variants, you're looking at 7 Hot!New! games (4 stickers, 3 printed manuals), 8 NFS games, and 7 (with the potential for two more) general variants.  That's not much at all. and only 2 games less than all the SAS games w/ additional variants.
  • Hey there PapaStu, great info on the DC Games. I did not know about Fighting Force 2, MvC and Monaco Grand Prix variants. Thanks! One question to you or anyone reading this thread. Have you ever seen a copy of ECW Wrestling sealed with Y-Folds? I have been looking for one for quite some time now. Everything I see looks re-sealed. Thanks!
  • Which ECW, Hardcore or Anarchy? I had an Anarchy sealed - it didn't have a Y-fold and looked resealed. It was also beat and cracked to shit so I opened it up - everything inside looked new. It's from Acclaim so it's probably just a cheap factory seal.

Also, ChuChu "standard resolution" doesn't have a Y-fold. It has seams around the edges with a fold-over flap on the back. I have two copies of it sealed exactly the same way and I'm certain they're legit.
  • Hardcore. I don't have Anarchy as well. But I do come across Hardcore many times. But they're always re-sealed. Very weird. I only have a pixel lated y-fold. Not the standard pixel. Still looking for one with Y-Folds. This is getting more difficult than I thought it would be.
  • Here's my Factory Sealed, with Y-Folds, copy of Fighting Force 2. Seems to have a sticker above the UPC. But under the plastic. Not on the plastic itself.

And here's my copy of Monaco Grand Prix. It has the . between the numbers. Same as Fighting Force 2, It's Factory Sealed with Y-Folds.

Never noticed these guys. Adding more to my road to completion.

    Thanks for the info guys.
  • Kemo, that Fighting Force 2 is indeed on the insert self.

    http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k252/PapaStu/IMG_0125.jpg

The . version of Monaco GP is the first release. I'd expect a huge majority of the copies to look like that. I've had little luck getting rear images of copies to see if we've got a corrected rear (printed) insert of late.

  • I'm fairly new to collecting Dreamcast games, and I noticed on the collection list here, that "Black and White" is listed as a Dreamcast game.

Did this game ever actually come out? If so, is it just really difficult to find? I did a search for it on Ebay, and I came up with nothing.

EDIT - Same question about Half-Life. Are there actually copies of that floating around somewhere?
  • No, Black & White did not get released. Neither did Half-Life or Propeller Arena for that matter.
  • Nope, no B&W unfortunately. There are a *lot* of unreleased Dreamcast games on the collectors tool, so if you're not too familiar with the system it is going to get confusing.

OK cool. Thanks for the replies guys. That helps to clarify things quite a bit.

I was a big fan of the Dreamcast when it was first released, buying games for it left and right, and I even picked up a few imports when they were first released, like The European version of Shenmue II, Border Down, Ikaruga, Zero Gunner 2, etc...

Then, of course, the Dreamcast died, and I moved on to the PS2 era...

When I found this site, I saw the complete list of Dreamcast games, and thought it would be a cool idea to set a goal to get a complete Dreamcast collection. However, I hadn't been reading up on Dreamcast news, so I really did a double take when I saw Half-Life 2 and Black and White on the list. I was thinking, did I miss something in the last several years? lol.

I tried checking out your list, but I guess I had to ask permission to acess the list. So, if you get a cooltobeyou asking to check it out, that would be me. That list sounds like it would be helpful
  • Sorry about that. Everyone can access the list now

Cool. Thanks. I'll definitely check it out!
  • I know Im bumping an old thread but Id rather do that than start a new one

In Johnny's list there are 247 games when the Collection tool has 256. Above, Austin said:

"There are a *lot* of unreleased Dreamcast games on the collectors tool, so if you're not too familiar with the system it is going to get confusing."

Is this still true or has the collection tool been updated since then? Is Johnnys list or the Collection Tool list the go to guide. Wikipedia and Price Charting also list a lot of other games, even more than the Collection Tool. I just want to know what I should be going by.

edit: Ok, in the Collection tool, it has the 5 GOAT Store games. Are these needed for a set? I noticed them because Price Charting doesnt track them.
  • My list is the go to list for all officially release games during the consoles life cycle, click the Variant tab for variants which add to the total depending on what you are looking for. To stress it, my list is official titles. Some list have lots of the after life cycle games included.

If you are after after life cycle games as well as official release then you will need to consult a few different lists as none of them have all the DC tiles avail.

(Just a note on the variant tab :I am not sure all the variants are listed, some new ones may have been discovered)
  • I did a preliminary clean of the Dreamcast section of the DB because it was, as noted, a complete disaster. Never went back to finish it up I guess.
  • The nine things listed in the DB that should not be there:

    The three Bleem titles.

    The three web browsers.

    Sonic Adventure (LE variant)

    Marvel vs. Capcom (All-Stars variant)

    Toy Fighter (WTF is this?!)

Take those out and you have 247.

And there are quite a few variants missing.
  • The three Bleem titles - I guess these would go under the unlicensed heading? Makes the most sense to me. Edit: they already are under unlicensed... what are you complaining about? haha

The three web browsers. - I don't know what to call these other than licensed. They're not unlicensed, demos, or anything else really

Sonic Adventure (LE variant) - Wouldn't Sonic Adventure be a variant of this. If everyone wants it to be a variant though, that could happen easily.

Marvel vs. Capcom (All-Stars variant) - Either I missed reporting this to Dain or he missed deleting it. Oops

Toy Fighter (WTF is this?!) - Looks like I missed one of the unreleased titles. Oops again. This one's gone.
  • Thanks guys, especially you and your list, Johnny. I have my collection page (and spreadsheets) updated. I do want to get the Bleem games eventually cause I always thought it was a cool thing since I first heard of it.

Im pretty excited about this collection, hopefully it will be fun as I think it will be. (I just hate the look of stacks of CD cases versus carts, lol)
  • With the dream cast the majority of the collectible stuff is on the hardware end, not games.
