Bought what I THOUGHT was a Final Fantasy III cart in NM condition, but it turned out to be Home Alone 2. Pretty nice swap that one... T_T At least I have a beautiful label to switch when I find a real copy of the game.
Ah man that sucks. I actually bought the shell of a Ninja Gaiden Trilogy cart from a guy due to the same experience. Hopefully you didn't pay too much for it.
I've never even heard of that happening. o.O
Luckily I haven't experienced it but this guy went in the store and bought a Ninja Gaiden Trilogy cart and took it home. Once he popped the game in some super scope game actually loaded. Nuts man!

I wouldn't be surprised if collectors/gamers do that so they could get some decent money for good games while still essentially keeping them.
I'm sure it was done because the trade in value for Home Alone is probably $1 whereas the trade in for FF3 is about $12. I bought it a while ago, but I think it cost about $30 so not too cheap actually. Definitely gets the blood boiling and I've since made a point to load up and play a little bit of every game I buy even when I get 30+ games at a time so something like this doesn't slip through again.
Guy puts an ad for NES and SNES games in Craigslist for his yard sale this Saturday. I message him asking what games he has and he responds with 6 NES and 7 SNES. Nothing super rare but there were a few I wanted like Big Nose Caveman and Trolls Adventure Island.
He only wants $20 which was okay by me. So this morning I ask the guy if he can hold them or if its first come first serve. He tells me first come first serve. I reply back a few hours later saying I will see him early Saturday and he tells me he sold them today. His explanation was that people could buy them whenever they want and the yard sale was Saturday. Pissed me off pretty good and although its not a mega loss but the ass clown lied and states I misconstrued what first come first served means. Nowhere in the ad did he say he would sell before the yard sale.
Not to be a jerk, but why didnt you ask him if you could stop by before the sale? That seems to be a no brainer... I always ask that to save time.
His ad specifically said "no early buyers"
Dude, thats lame.
Reminds me of the time that a sale had a add on craigslist advertising games, and from the looks of it alot of great ones. I showed up bright and early to make sure I got there first, they said someone had gotten them out of bed a 5 am and bought them all. I was pissed.
Walked into a local shop, looked through a bunch of Sega CD games and didn't see anything. Bought a few loose NES games then I look behind the counter and there's Snatcher for the Sega CD, the game I was looking for in the first place. I offer $100 on the spot and they say they're holding it for an employee. They said they'd call the employee and ask if they he was going to get it. He wasn't home and they said they'd call me when they talked to him. Next day I get a call and they sold it to him for $100 without giving me a chance to offer more. Bastards, I would've gone $125 if given the chance.
Ugh.... so irritated right now. There's a local "yard sale" group on Facebook where people from the county can post up things they have for sale, and I have a post up that I'm looking to buy video games, consoles, collections and etc. Someone posted on mine last night that they had a Nintendo and 50 games for $60, so I messaged her about 15 minutes after her post that I'd take it and wanted to set up a time to meet. Never heard anything back, messaged again later that night and didn't hear anything. Posted a reply on my thread and tagged her in it to tell her I had sent her a message, nothing.
Today she posted something up for sale, I replied to it that I still wanted the Nintendo she offered me. Apparently she hasn't been on Facebook very long, says she doesn't know how to work messages very well so she never got the ones I sent to her and sold it to some woman last night.
until he found out i was from Canada, AFTER i paid him. his auction were suposedly put online by an employee that forgot to put US ONLY as shipping option. he canceled the transaction, refunded me and relisted it and sold it within minutes.
i was pissed a bit cuz that was the 2nd time in 2 days that the same situation happened to me.
Last night I saw this record stores Facebook status that they had a copy of Clay Fighter Sculptors Cut in...for $15. I get there when they open this morning to find out that some guy called last night and had them hold it for him, I was not very happy

That totally sucks man - unless you happen to be the dude who called.
So my best friend and I have a love for AVGN, especially his episode on the review for Action 52 for NES. We always have been saving for it, but the Action 52 fund hasn't gotten far.
Anyway so I was at my local Disc Replay and I saw Action 52 on the shelf for $39.99.
I was jumping. In the store. I was.
I ran outside to my dad, waiting in his car and when we're walking inside I notice these two tall, skinny hippie looking dudes walk out with a NES Cart. I don't pay attention.
So when I ask the clerk to get Action 52 out of the glass he's like
"Action 52? Some people literally JUST bought that."
I've been kind of on and off about acquiring CB (+I, if one comes along) Pocky & Rocky 2 for a while now. First I passed a super mint quality B+I here for 70 bucks thinking I don't really need it, regretted it for a long time. Then after finally deciding I don't need it for sure, an ok-conditioned box appeared on eBay. Was really on the fence on that one until the last second, decided to buy but failed a last second bid miserably (and I wasn't particularly trying to snipe either, just couldn't decide), and that ended at $61. Now a nice near mint full CIB copy appeared a while ago, so I decided that this time I'll play it safe and put in a huge over 200 buck bid to ensure I'll get it this time and don't need to regret any more. I thought no-one else would most certainly want to bid over around $150. The auction ended while I was sleeping at $305.
Two lessons learned: 1) Get it while you can, or be prepared to wait a long time for price drops 2) I need to pay way more attention to condition. The thing is, for my purpouses, a condition 7-8 box is more than enough, but I'm seem to currently suck in trying to estimate the conditions effect on price..

ouch, that stings just reading that. you have my sympathies.
I responded to this kijiji ad and called both numbers as soon as I saw it, but the guys voicemails were full. I'm guessing it was either a prank or he had no idea what the value of this stuff was and got bombarded.
Ive had that happen a few times at a goodwill. They store their games that are boxed/cased in a different area to stop the theft but it seems to promote it cause it never fails ... any time I find one Im interested in, the game is gone so I get the case and everything in it for free.
Got contacted by a woman selling games. Here's the email.
hi my name is XXXXX and i was wondering if you would want to buy any of my nes games, and how much for each game the games are
mario 1 2 3
contra
rc pro am
bubble bobble 1 and 2
tmnt 1 and 3

paper boy
duck tales
barbie

and
zelda 2 the adventures of link
my system broke and
i don't play the games any more.
I contacted her within 30 minutes of her sending it to me. An hour later she contacts me to tell me she sold 2 games (guess which ones). I called her out as a spammer, which she denied vehemently. I am leaning towards it being real and it put a damper on a pretty good day of collecting.

I wouldn't leave without it. I would also offer more money. If push came to shove, I would tell them it's worth 100s of dollars. I would punch the first person to look at me wrong after leaving the store. I would go to jail. I would cry.
I saw 3 Bad Fur Day carts at a flea market but they had them marked at $50 each. Pshh no wonder they have 3 copies of it. I have an empty Bad Fur Day box/manual, so I was going to fill it but eff that when I can get it much lower.
Seen an ad on Kijiji today, someone was selling Lufia 2, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, FF Mystic Quest and Super Mario RPG for 200. He sold them just before I messaged him. Not happy right now argh
Today, I lost out on a copy of bomberman 64 the Second Attack from goodwill and that would have been $2.
Because, their are 2 Mexican brother's that sometimes show up and today one of them came and raped all the N64 games but, 3 that I was able to get.
Also, he got a watermelon N64 console. He usually only buy's video's games to sell for a quick buck and dvd's while I go, for myself to add games to my collection. I would not miind him as much if he did not lie his ass off all the time and he will say it' for his kid for is brother if you ask him if he will trade. It's alway's end's up at the fleamarket the item's he buy's and are way overpriced. They are both jerk's in my point for view.

you can feel better if you just assume it was some asshat collector posting a fake ad to scope out the local competition.
