For sale- NES Solitaire and Puzzle

Im not sure how much these are worth but they seem to be fairly rare. If someone could fill me in on their value I would appreciate it. As you can see, Solitaire has a rounded corner and Puzzle is square. Does that make it more rare?   Not sure what to charge so PM me if interested. If there worth only 5 or 10 bucks I will probably just keep them.   Thanks!

  • Someone should snag the square corner Puzzle, not an easy one to find.

  • lol Jason, it seems we always disagree on the relative scarcity of these AVE variants.

Actually I've seen more square-cut puzzles than angle-cut corners. I actually had to hunt for the angle to knock it off my list. I'm pretty sure for this, Solitaire, Trolls and Mermaids the split is pretty even. The rest are a bit off. Maybe I'll mail a Dain-style variant list since I've almost completed my AVE cut collection and have a pretty good idea.
  • I have had a full set of them for years..Puzzle was one of the last ones I needed as well. Took me like 1.5 years to find it....maybe regional or something?

For me....the square corner Krazy Kreature's was very hard to find.  I never was able to find a square corner Ultimate League Soccer either.  Puzzle IMO is pretty easy to find with a square corner.

  • i recently got michiganfans cib solitaire for about $60 on the bay if that helps with pricing of a cart only. i dont remember what type corner it had, nor do i care! image
  • Puzzle = $6-$8, Solitaire = $20-$25. I actually need the square-corner Puzzle...I have the angled-corner variant already o_O . As for Solitaire, already have both angled- and square-corner variants of those.
  • Honestly, I'd refer to the ezine price guide. (Subtract a bit if theres any cosmetic flaws). Its the most acurate estimate of prices over the last month.

Even though I'm a collector or these variants (including the back label variants) I dont tend to pay extra since I know I'm going to have to try and track down a CIB in order to make them complete.

I remember you mentioned a while ago having trouble with Krazy Kreatures. I got mine after about a month of looking, and saw one other after that. But I'll admit, as far as scarcity goes it's definitely a cut above. No pun intended.

The one that took the longest for me to find was actually Tiles of Fate. That one was a bitch. I also had trouble getting Pyramid in good shape, but I went through a few of them.

I don't think Ultimate League Soccer, Venice Beach Volleyball or Rad Racket exist in square-cut. I've been looking for a while. The square-carts are all the latest releases, after early 92. We know this from looking at chip dates; also the protos are in cut-corner cases. What probably happened, is games that sold well got reorders, and when they redesigned the carts the popular ones got put into them. Sports games were just not that popular image They thought they were hedging their bets making a well-rounded library of games - but Deathbots > Tennis.

But conjecture aside, I'm certain it's no random chance that the three which are unverified are the only three sports titles. These got cut. Again, no pun intended image

Edit: Wally bear is unverified as square-corner, and Maxi is square-corner only. The latter because it's the latest release from the company, encompassing many of their offerings to date. The former was likely canned because it was licensed from ACGI and that probably expired. May have something to do with that random ACGI Wally "proto" that exists. Further evidence: Wally bear does not appear on Maxi-15, which is logical if they no longer had the rights to sell it.

  • Dan, do you have any info on the backs of the carts?

I've noticed not only different stickers, but also differences in the embossing/molding.

I've always wondered if the bilingual ones were intended to be sold in Canada, for the same reasons that Camerica had (ie: no lawsuits)

  • Good call. Yes, every square-cut has a bilingual back. These revised carts also have the American Video Entertainment / Made in USA" emboss at the bottom.

Most of my corner-cuts have a bilingual back label, but I own three that have the oldest label that's in very large font, English-only. They must have made the change very early in production, but I don't have info off the chips inside my own carts (pain in the ass to get these open).

Of course, no corner-cut carts have any embossment on the back. I can't say if that was the reason why they made a new mold, they could have just put that info on the back label...
  • Solitaire is sold. Still have puzzle, Zelda Oracle of ages and Seasons for Gameboy, and a minty Mega Man 6 on Chuckwagon for $15.
