Making a list of "2" games in Roman and Arabic Numeral differences

Games that have 2 (arabic) vs. II (roman) in their title screen/box art

example: mega man 2 vs. dragon warrior II

also what do you prefer? i personally prefer the number 2. i am SURE everyone says the same for superbowl. what does xlivii mean to the avg person? yes i know you subtract the numeral if the one following it is larger but do ppl actually do that? kill off stupid II and III and so on! besides, marvel vs. capcom 2 has an AMAZING "2" in its logo. now please offer me a list of II and 2 games. i am curious to know which came out ahead.

also notice the inconsistency capcom had in its entire mega man series on the NES. the boxart uses 2, 3, 4 and so on while the title screen uses II III IV V and VI

i wonder how many other games have this?

  • I personally prefer roman numerals. It just looks more official and hardcore. Sometimes I think it depends on the font or the type of game, though. But personally, I much more prefer roman numerals. Once they get as high as the Super Bowls, I agree, they do get a bit confusing, but just as cool as they are confusing.
  • I actually like Roman numerals better, they look much more cleaner than your standard numbers.

  • ^ You still forgot Golgo 13 and Golgo 13 II. Even though the first is not the thirteenth game in the series and the second one does have a roman numeral, arabic numbers are still in the title...

You have way too much time on your hands.
  • I think the number used has to compliment the title. I don't think Duck Tales II would've worked.
  • Also, I want to say that the style of number used implies maturity level. May not be true in every game, but looking at lists it sounds pretty close.
  • ^ That's a good observation. I think both your posts pretty much nail it.

Golgo 13 is the name of the actual anime though, so I don't think it would count.

Also, finding that data was extremely easy since I have an excel file that I can just do a mass search on and ignore the false positives.
  • Good ol' Excel.
